"So many lovely and heartfelt messages of condolences and sympathy, I don't know what to say, except my sincere thank you to all," Michael Nesmith said in a lengthy Facebook post.
"That David has stepped beyond my view causes me the sadness that it does many of you. I will miss him but I won't abandon him to mortality. David's spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us."
"I am in a state of shock; Davy and I grew up together and shared in the unique success of what became The Monkees phenomena," Micky Dolenz said on his Facebook page. "The time we worked together and had together is something I'll never forget. He was the brother I never had and this leaves a gigantic hole in my heart. The memories have and will last a lifetime. My condolences go out to his family."
White Peter Tork said via Facebook: "It is with great sadness that I reflect on the sudden passing of my long-time friend and fellow-adventurer, David Jones. His talent will be much missed; his gifts will be with us always. My deepest sympathy to Jessica and the rest of his family. Adios, to the Manchester Cowboy."

"I'm sad to hear about Davy Jones," Neil Diamond tweeted. "The Monkees were such a sensation that it was a thrill for me to have them record some of my early songs."
"Sad to hear of the passing of Davy Jones!" Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan tweeted. "Met him just last year, was very kind to me. Monkees should have been in R 'n R HOF years ago."
"R.I.P. Davy Jones," Will Smith tweeted, asking others to "retweet for respect." Similar sentiments were echoed by Weird Al Yankovic.
"Rest in Peace, Mr. Jones.." Butch Walker tweeted. "You were my first crush with music. Watched the show religiously and first album i ever bought. #DaydreamBeliever"
"RIP Davy..." Julian Lennon tweeted. "You did some Great work! Condolences to The Jones Family."
"Man, I LOVED Davy Jones!!" Neko Case tweeted. Case later added that "Mike Nesmith was my 'boyfriend' but Davy Jones was my 'best friend' in my childhood Monkee-liking politics." (Her subsequent tweets described Mickey Dolenz as "Icky" while Peter Tork "just registered to me as a golden retriever.")
"Sad about Davy Jones passing away," Tegan Quin tweeted. "Sara and I loved the Monkees. We used to watch the show after school growing up. #rip"
"Eternal rest for Davy Jones who leaves a great legacy of music, fun and all the colors of the rainbow," Nancy Sinatra tweeted while later adding that Jones "leaves a wife, 4 daughters and a great legacy. Gone too soon."
"We are so sad to hear of the passing of Davy Jones," longtime guitarist Duane Eddy tweeted along with an old photo of himself and Jones together. "He made so many people happy..."
"R.I.P. Davy Jones," NBC rep for 'The Voice' tweeted. "We'll miss your voice."
Finally, perhaps the oddest tweet was from Diplo regarding Jones' death. "bob Marley davy jones north korea u feel me?"
And so far, no mention from David Bowie regarding Jones' passing. As is widely known, Bowie was born David Jones in 1947 but changed his name in the 1960s to avoid confusion with the late Monkees musician.
