Rush and other recipients -- Janina Fialkowska, Paul-André Fortier, Denis Marleau, Deepa Mehta and Mary Walsh -- were announced Tuesday in Calgary, reports the CBC.
The award isn't the first nod that Rush has received from their homeland. In 1994, members Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart and Geddy Lee were inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame. 16 years later, they were inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. Despite all the local recognition for the band, Cleveland-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continues to snub Rush and their fans who have long been petitioning to have the music legends inducted.
Rush, formed in 1968, have produced over four decades of memorable music including hits like 'The Spirit of Radio' (one of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll), 'New World Man' and 'Closer to the Heart.'

Iam a life long Clevelander and Rush fan. I still don't understand Rush not being in the Rock Hall. IMO, the Rock Hall is a joke. Some of the people/bands have no business being in there. Rap for one shouldn't be there. I have no problems with Rap, I actually enjoy the rythm, but it is not Rock and Roll.

* I heard Tom Sawyer in the grocery store the other day. I never thought I would see the day when I would hear Rush in the grocery store. But I'm glad I did. Their music puts chills up and down my spine every time. Thank you Rush.
don't understand why they are overlooked for the rock & roll hall of fame....are they too progressive???
