The singer has revealed her long-awaited new record, reportedly due out this June, will be called 'The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do'
...and breathe.
The absurdly lengthy title barely holds a candle to her sophomore release, 'When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king/What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight/And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring/There's no body to batter when your mind is your might/So when you go solo, you hold your own hand/And remember that depth is the greatest of heights/And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land/ And if you fall it won't matter, cause you'll know that you're right,' which is even more absurdly ranked No. 2 by the Guinness World Records for longest album title behind Cumbawaumba's 'The Boy Bands Have Won...' -- but it's still a mega-mouthful (as was this sentence).
Who knows if this name will stick around? Red Hot Chili Peppers threatened an equally inventive run-on-sentence-of-a-title when 'I'm With You' was first dubbed 'Dr. Johnny Skinz's Disproportionately Rambunctious Polar Express Machine-Head.' Either way, we're definitely looking forward to the disc.
Some might wonder if the name is a way for Apple to get back at her label who've supposedly been sitting on the album for some time. The singer told an audience back in 2011 the disc had been "done for a f---ing year," according to Prefix. Chances are, though, it's just Apple being, well, Apple.
Those flocking to Austin next week should get the chance to preview the new record when she performs her brooding piano-pop at SXSW. If you can get past what is sure to be an absurdly long line, that is.
