During a recent chat with MTV News Canada, the drummer addressed a statement he gave in January to Rolling Stone in which he claimed, "Rock 'n' roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world, so they became OK with the idea that the biggest rock band in the world is always going to be shit."
"I didn't mean to single them out," Carney said in the new interview. "It just came out. There are much worse bands than Nickelback ... Maybe."
His justification? "I don't like bad music," Carney reasoned. "Look, I've got a lot a lot of friends and not one of them has a Nickelback record." We are willing to wager that if Carney does indeed have as many friends as he claims to have, then at least one of them is hastily disposing of their copy of 'Silver Side Up.'
Singer Dan Auerbach acknowledged the obvious insincerity of the comment saying, "Good job, dude. That was the worst apology. That was terrible, man."
Carney, like the rest of us, could only laugh in agreement.
