Empires Inspired by David Bowie on 'Can't Steal Your Heart Away' -- Song Premiere

Title track Can't Steal Your Heart Away is the raucous opening number (and proclaimed centerpiece) off both the album and EP. It was the first of the new songs that the three members fell in love with right off the bat, singer Sean Van Vleet tells Spinner.

The song sneaked up on Van Vleet the morning after hearing David Bowie's "Girls" for the first time at a party and finding it to be a strange backdrop to the evening.
He thought nothing more of it until the next day when inspiration struck.
"I woke up in the morning, sat near the bed with this guitar and it sort of came out without even thinking," he says. "The first line was 'Bowie in the background, crying over girls,' and then the whole song went from there."
