"Seeing Katy Perry as a soldier in 'Part Of Me' really makes me think that we need to start a war so she can go die," Abraham tweeted. Shortly thereafter, Abraham tweeted a bit more on the subject: "Yes I'm aware my last tweet was kinda dumb but so is glamorizing war to sell records to idiots. Katy Perry Still Sucks."
Within minutes of the tweet, Abraham began getting a backlash from Perry fans and supporters which Abraham began retweeting. "DIE DICK," one fan replied while another tweeted: "you're actually an asshole. Why don't you tweet that to her? Go fuck yourself. Fucking asshole."
"How mature of you to make such a mundane comment on a video that has gained 18+million views," another added. "Not a smart move really."
But perhaps the sharpest barb was from another fan who tweeted "cant @ u irrelevant dog shading queen Katy in order to get recognized," one said. "go burn your fat, fat fuck." Others also described Abraham as stupid and a "fat ass bearded mess."
Abraham isn't the first person this week to chastise Perry for the video. Earlier feminist author Naomi Wolf asked people to boycott Perry for what Wolf described as "propaganda" and a "glorification of violence."
Perry has not commented on Abraham's tweet nor has she replied to Wolf's earlier statement.
Fucked Up is performing at this weekend's Juno Awards in Ottawa. The band is nominated for Alternative Album of the Year for David Comes To Life.
UPDATE: Spinner didn't pick up on this because our knowledge of L.A. '77 hardcore is limited, but Abraham's "start a war" line was inspired by the band Fear's song "Let's Have a War." He tweeted Thursday afternoon that his "clever" reference had spiraled out of control in a way that was "nuts."
