A statement on the duo's website says Lowen, "peacefully ended his nine-year standoff with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's Disease), surrounded by family and awash in love, gratitude and beautiful music. We all appreciate the support and well wishes that have come his way these many years, and will always hold dear the shining example he was, and still is, to us all."
While collaborating with Navarro, the singer-songwriter wrote "We Belong" for Pat Benatar's 1984 Tropico Album. The song went on to peak at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The songwriting team also penned songs for David Lee Roth, the Bangles, Dave Edmunds and the Triplets. The two released several albums in their own right, including Walking on a Wire and Scratch at the Door.

So very sorry to hear that he died, he really had a tough time of it. Hope they find a cure for this some day.

I get the chills when I hear it, especially near the end, when the children sing along. I remember the video from the original MTV show.

First I hear I can get it, then I hear it's only 10%. But I am scared to death of getting it. I hope I don't though.

The percentage of people with ALS that test positive for Lyme Disease is high. There are only a few labs in the US that know which bands to test for or you get false negative results. Lymenet.com is a good place to go if you want to do a bit of research about the relationship between the two.

This news is really sad and I send my condolences to all his family, friends and fans. I know he put up a brave fight.
