Astronautalis broke the news when he began updating a series of photographs on his Tumblr, and the man is clearly happy with the results. "There were several times during those three days where I couldn't believe that a sound just fell perfectly into place," he told Gimme Noise. "Often times you get one of those when you make a record, or two of those, over the course of weeks and weeks and weeks. This process was exhilarating, and it drove us further. We were originally going to be down there for a day."
It's not entirely clear what we can expect as listeners, but Astronautalis has made a point of distinguishing that it won't be him "rapping and Justin singing choruses," like your standard hip-hop project.
"What sparked this was that he and I are obsessive and lose our minds working on albums," he explained. "Stressing out over lyric choices, and getting one word right and worrying about it for weeks on end. Whereas, Ryan is this amazing personality who motivates people to enjoy the process of making music. You just do it, and if it doesn't work, it'll get cut out."
The as-yet-untitled project doesn't have a release date but they are "hell-bent on getting it out really quickly," according to Astronautalis. And again, just in case you were starting to form a mental picture of what this project could look like, he warned, "I think everyone should abandon their expectations of what it's going to be, because it's probably going to be very far off."
