"I was at the Jays' game last night," Green said on Toronto sports radio station The Fan 590 with Sid and Tim (Sid Seixeiro and Tim Micallef) this afternoon (listen here). "Just took it in, almost got into a fight."
According to Green, he was watching the game with his wife Leah Miller seated in the left field section when a drunken fan behind him started tooting his own horn, literally.
"I'm not going to a sports game to expect like complete silence," Green said. "But the guy was yelling constantly behind me and that's fine, too. At one point he said, 'Is my horn bothering you?' and I said, 'Yes.'
"He started to say 'I don't have any tattoos' and what does that mean? I don't have any idea," the musician continued. "But then he said, 'Well that's why you don't like me because I don't have any tattoos.' And then me and him kind of got yelling at each other and then a guy over from us started yelling at him, too."
Green, who told the fan, "I just want you to shut up and watch the game," said the man kept heckling Red Sox outfielder Cody Ross about his $3 million salary and chugging back beers.
"Then he Googled me and found out my name and so then he started calling me by name and then his girlfriend started yelling at my wife. It was just a wonderful experience for a home opener."
From there the fan was temporarily removed but later returned irritated by what happened.
"I don't have a big idea of who I am, I'm a person from St. Catharines, Ontario who plays guitar and that's it," Green said. "But it's when people start making it a big deal, that's what got me so angry, that's what made me want to stand up and punch him."
Despite the incident last night, Green said he will be at the Rogers Centre again tonight for the second game of the Blue Jays home opening series.
City and Colour will be opening for Coldplay later this month in Vancouver on April 21. Green is also slated to tour Australia and revealed in the interview that a possible Toronto date is in the works for later this summer.
