Ringo Starr Stage Fright: Rocker Battles Anxiety, Admits to Puking Before Shows

"I have actually puked before I went on as all my nerves come to the fore," Starr said in an interview with Billboard. "It is part of what I am and it happens before every show. There have been times that I just wanted to go back to bed as I just get so nervous."
"Every night I just hope that tonight is the night when I am going to feel like Frank Sinatra," he continued.
So how does the drummer combat his nerves? By running! "I hope, 'You are just going to stroll on,'" he explained, "but I haven't made it yet -- I always run."
"That's why I always run on to it. I would love to coolly stroll on stage but I cannot." So do not interpret Ringo's swift entrance onstage as enthusiasm. Treat him gently, as he is actually scared of you -- and he might puke.

Well, Ringo's had so many "stomach" problems over the years starting in childhood, I'm not surprised he's touchy. But that he would ever be actually nervous when he is so loved and enjoyed astounds me.

Those who can, do. Those who can't give themselves a name like "Artistic..." Change that r in your name to a u!

April 10 2012 at 10:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI would have stage fright too. Many people don't know this but the Sgt. Peppers album drumming was not Ringo Starr; it was too complicated for him. The problem with live performances is when you get caught doing a Milli Vanilli.

April 10 2012 at 10:36 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYou know. . . . there IS professional help for such stage fright.
With THAT kind of money coming in, there is no reason to not get private help.
Stage Fright is just not necessary, especially after hundreds of live shows.
We all know that Ed Sullivan also threw up/ vomited before every show.
So. . . . . Ed Sullivan is about ready to come on stage on LIVE TV and introduce the beatles...........
::::::: Heave, heave, heave, get the bucket, heave heave heave...... and now here's Ed Sullivan.... Heave, heave. :::::::: walks on stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen..... THE BEATLES !
Ringo hears that and :::: Heave, heave, heave, heave, vomit, vomit, puke puke::::
and the Beatles all run onto the stage.
TADA !
2 buckets of vomit for the price of one!
Thank you for still performing!!! I for one appreciate it. Another one of your fans
