Coachella 2012 Saturday RPM Preview: Kaskade Vs. Radiohead, EDM Hell & More

Despite some of the more regrettable choices made by the festival's programmers (ie booking Swedish House Mafia both as individual members and as a group, how dumb do they think ... forget it), there are still some pretty bright highlights on Saturday, albeit not necessarily all in the dance/electronica world.
Feel secure in your decision to catch up on sleep Saturday morning, if you're able, and ease into the day, either with Vancouver's resident indiepop-jazz weirdo-genius Destroyer at the Outdoor Theatre at 2:30PM, or new electro-hipster rap find Azealia Banks at 2:50 at the Gobi.
Next up is one of the day's unexpected highlights (and Safari's lone redeeming booking), a performance by Zoot Woman member Jacques Lu Cont, also known as Thin White Duke, Les Rhythmes Digitales and Paper Faces, who has remixed and produced for Madonna (dubious cred at this point), Royksopp, Miike Snow, New Order, Depeche Mode and many more. Should be fun, his recent tracks have been solid.
After Lu Cont's 3:35PM set, Sahara devolves in EDM Hades, featuring the likes of dubstepper Zeds Dead, candy-house producer Martin Solveig, Swedish House Mafia member Sebastian Ingrosso, and David Guetta.
Thankfully, there are plenty of other interesting things going on -- our plan will probably be to check out fIREHOSE (!!!) at Gobi, then either tUnE-yArDs at Outdoor or the Buzzcocks at Gobi, followed by a lengthy break, then Jeff Mangum at Outdoor at 7:20, and the Shins at the Coachella Stage at 8:10.
At this point, electronic music is probably going to sound like a good idea again, perfect timing for Flying Lotus' heady dub at the Gobi at 9:00, followed by Miike Snow at the Outdoor Theatre (interested to hear the new tunes live, plus not blown away by SBTRKT live) at 10:10, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor (legendary, really) at 10.
Finally, when it comes to the headlining act, it's a pretty easy choice between Kaskade's crushing progressive house in Sahara at 11:15, and Radiohead at the Coachella Stage at 11:05 -- if you've read this far, you already know which choice we'll make.
