The fest, which will be taking place in Montreal, Quebec from May 30 - June 3, is considered a world leader in showcasing the best, boldest and most bizarre in electronic and experimental music. The 2011 edition of the festival featured Plastikman's welcome return and the mind-bending debut of Amon Tobin's crazy-cube ISAM stage show.
It's a bit difficult to explain exactly what goes on at Mutek unless you're there, so we're just going to use as sample of the explanations taken directly from the fest's own site to articulate what some of the events will be:
CINECHAMBER at Excentris -- "A performative space that surrounds audiences with ten screens that can be 'played' or manipulated as an instrument."
SAtosphere at Society for Arts & Technology -- "A planetarium-style dome geared toward the next generation of audio-visual performances."
"Australia's Robin Fox presents a must-see laser show layered with radioactive evocations."
"Hyperdub boss KODE9 takes a rare turn at live soundtracking with collaborators MFO and Ms. Haptic in the Unsound-commissioned live audiovisual homage to the classic sci-fi film La Jetée."
At Eglise St. James -- "Hometown hero Tim Hecker will premiere a performance on the church's massive organ. He'll be joined along the way by Southern Lord founder Stephen O'Malley (of Sunn O)))), who will accompany Hecker on guitar for an extended improv."
Adventurous souls should head to Mutek's site to find out more.
