Hey Ocean, "Islands" (Acoustic) -- Exclusive Video

Vancouver band Hey Ocean! have been rising steadily since the West Coasters made their independent debut in 2006 with first album Stop Looking Like Music. Two years later It's Easier to Be Somebody Else followed and brought with it greater acclaim.

With the band now poised to release new album Is on May 15 through Universal Music Canada, it's not hard to speculate even bigger things are in store for the trio made up of Ashleigh Ball, David Beckingham and David Vertesi.

After all, they're already penetrating our television sets. "Make a New Dance Up," one of the new songs from Is, was recently featured in the Lifetime channel show Army Wives, while "Islands," another Is track, aired on the CB network teen drama One Tree Hill.

"Islands" dreamy boy-girl harmonies and escapist fantasy vibe are particularly compelling to the Spinner staff. That's probably got something to do with the band giving us an exclusive acoustic video of "Islands" to chill out and listen to in times of stress.

Hey Ocean! say they got some help from an old friend while making the video.

"This acoustic video for our song 'Islands' was shot by Benny Schuetze (Sky Yeller) who is not only an incredible filmmaker, but also happens to have been our first drummer," David Vertesi tells Spinner. "We transformed Benny's living room into our own little musical sanctuary and although the lanterns definitely made it magical we spent almost as much time cleaning up all the dripping wax as we did shooting the video itself!"
