Paul Simon Reveals Origin of 'Boy in the Bubble' -- Exclusive Video From Upcoming 'Graceland' Documentary

One of the most surprising things about Paul Simon's landmark album Graceland is that most of it was recorded in a different country over the course of only about 10 days. Simon traveled to South Africa to cut the record, but when he returned to the states he had nothing but music -- lyrics and melody weren't even a part of the equation yet.

Such was the case with "Boy in the Bubble," as Simon describes in his upcoming documentary "Under African Skies," which celebrates the album's 25th anniversary. However, returning to America with all the instrumental tracks in his pocket allowed Simon the luxury of being able to scrap his progress and start all over without having to return to South Africa.

Simon explained his real-time thought process as such: "If I don't like the song, I'll erase the song but the track still is there, so I'll fix it." And that's exactly what he did with "Boy in the Bubble."

"Under African Skies" will be given a limited theatrical run in New York and Los Angeles beginning on May 11. Meanwhile Graceland's 25th Anniversary Edition vinyl will be made available on Record Store Day (April 21) while several editions of the album will be released on CD/DVD June 5.
