It all started with a story on Music-News.com that ran with the headline "The Smiths to reform." The purported reunion was set to take place this fall, with the band following in the footsteps of the recently regrouped Stone Roses.
Soon after, guitarist Johnny Marr took to his Facebook page to say, "The rumour of the Smiths reunion is untrue. It's not happening." In an interview with the Mirror, drummer Mike Joyce commented, "When I first heard about it I was ... to say surprised and rather shocked was a bit of an understatement."
"It's not happening folks, as far as I know -- which could be a good thing," he added.
Morrissey has yet to say anything about it, though he's probably busy making somebody angry. For their part, Music-News.com acknowledged the developments thusly: "Update: Since we published this article earlier today, denial of this reformation has been rife."
