"Us doing the hurdles? That's not true," Martin says in an exclusive video interview courtesy of ET Canada.
The hurdles line is Martin's coy way of deflecting interviewer Erin Cebula when she asks about whether or not Coldplay -- unlike the Who's Keith Moon, who definitely isn't going to be there -- have landed the much-coveted gig performing at the Olympics opening ceremony.
Martin and guitarist Jonny Buckland were more forthcoming discussing their families, the band's touring schedule and blaming U2 singer Bono for random mischief.
The singer, who's married to Gwyneth Paltrow, and Buckland, drummer Will Champion and bassist Guy Berryman all have children and say the desire to take their families on the road affects when and where they tour these days.
"More than ever we try [to take our families on the road]," says Martin. "We have to tour, and then you finish tour and you have to go and pick up someone from school. So our touring schedule is kind of dictated by three headmistresses in Britain."
During the interview Buckland also randomly accuses Bono of messing with their guitars.
"He definitely made it not work the other night in Calgary," said the guitarist.
Martin, however, was quick to point out Buckland was just fibbing.
"We're joking, by the way," he said. "They're the best band on the planet."
