Courtney Love Lost Rights to Kurt Cobain's Image, Frances Bean in Control

Courtney Love has officially lost the right to use Kurt Cobain's image and likeness in any way. Documents obtained by The Fix show that Love relinquished control of all the publicity rights of her late husband to estranged daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

In 2010, the Hole singer agreed to step down as acting manager of End of Music LLC (the business that generates funds from Cobain's intellectual property) in exchange for a $2.75 million loan from Frances Bean's trust fund. Until the sum is completely paid off, Courtney Love will earn no money off the Nirvana frontman's name or image. She also has no control over his music, as Primary Wave's Larry Mestel owns 100 percent of the rights to Cobain's catalog.

Love, who lost custody of Frances Bean in 2009, has never been shy about publicly critiquing the use of Kurt's image and songs. Two months ago, she said his memory was "raped" by "The Muppets" movie for its a cappella version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit." In 2009, she slammed Activision for allowing Cobain to be used as a playable character in "Guitar Hero," though the video-game makers said she had signed over all the rights.

These days, Courtney continues to make headlines for her erratic behavior online and in public. Recently, the troubled singer lashed out at Dave Grohl, accusing him of sleeping with her daughter. Love is also currently embroiled in several lawsuits, including one from a former attorney who claims Love slandered him.

Documents did not specify why Love needed such a large loan, but all evidence points to her mounting legal debts. Though Courtney still owns around 60 percent of her husband's belongings, her wealth is most definitely shrinking.
