Haroula Rose, 'So Easy' Song Premiere: Summery Pop Meets Elliott Smith

Haroula Rose's new track "So Easy" strikes an interesting balance between sunny pop and a tradition of darker rock 'n' roll in the Elliott Smith vein. Utilizing unexpected chord changes, plinking piano lines, hot Beatles-esque guitar licks and smart orchestral arrangements, Haroula and co. have created a true gem.

"I co-wrote the song 'So Easy' with Jonny Flower (who plays bass in the band). We had a lot of fun writing together, laughing a lot, trying to come up with something unique and upbeat and happy for summertime," Haroula tells Spinner.

The singer-songwriter has been working with a laundry list of famed L.A. musicians for her upcoming EP So Easy, out June 4. And she definitely achieved her goal of a summery jam on the title track single even though it displays just a tinge of melancholia. The waxing guitars set to a waltzing drum beat are like a weeping willow tree on an extremely humid day, a tactic Smith used time and time again.
