Amy Winehouse & Pete Doherty 'Blood Painting' Auction Could Net $130,000

Former Libertines frontman Pete Doherty will be auctioning off some of his art pieces in London later this week which were smeared with his own blood. But the biggest draw might be an item smeared with somebody else's blood -- the late Amy Winehouse's.

According to the Independent, the auction takes place this Friday at the Cob Gallery with private diaries, guitars, military jackets and other items included. Yet it's a collaborative painting Doherty did with Winehouse that's getting the most attention. The piece, called "Ladylike," features a small self-portrait which was created using Winehouse's blood. The piece is expected to go from between £50,000 to £80,000 ($80,000 to $129,000 US).

"Amy was on the phone to her dad when she did that (painting)," Doherty said. "She said, 'Dad, I'm with Pete and he's making me draw with my blood!' He didn't like me much, her dad."
Other items featured on the Cob Gallery auction site include a 2012 work featuring "music lyrics on blood" which is expected to go from £3,000 to £5,000 ($4,800 to $8,000 US) and a painting featuring lyrics and self-portraits.

Another collaboration, this one with Charlotte Gainsbourg made during the filming of The Confessions of a Child of the Century in 2011, is estimated to sell between £5,000 to £9,000 ($8,000 to $15,000 US). A percentage of all sales is will go the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

The Cob Gallery also hosted a Doherty exhibition earlier this year entitled On Blood: A Portrait of the Artist, which featured 15 to 20 blood paintings with prints also up for sale. One named "Salome," which was the cover for Doherty's 2009 album Grace/Wastelands, went for £7,000 ($11,720 US).

Doherty is reportedly working on a novel. The musician performed a series of reunion gigs with the Libertines in 2010.
