Here We Go Magic Pick Up Hitchhiking John Waters, Find the Director 'A Total Joy'

Picking up hitchhikers is risky: There's always a chance you'll get a weirdo. That's what happened earlier today to Here We Go Magic, but the Ohio foursome didn't wind up with just any oddball. They landed the king: Film director John Waters, the mustachioed man behind such classic films as "Pink Flamingos" and "Crybaby."

"Just picked up John Waters hitchhiking in the middle of Ohio.. No joke. Waters in the van," the band tweeted this morning, eliciting some skepticism from followers.

In a follow-up post, the band affirmed its story was "absolutely 100% pinky sworn true," adding, "He even carries a mixtape to listen to!"

Waters is evidently a solid dude, and in addition to buying the group lunch, he tought them "new words like 'Trendsexual' and 'Blouse,'" according to a tweet from band member Jen Turner.

The website dcist.com reached out to the musicians for comment, and Michael Bloch explained that after a long night driving around in eastern Ohio, searching for a hotel, they hit the road this morning, only to see a guy holding that read "to the end of Rte 70."

"As we passed by, our sound guy said 'John Waters' Luke said, 'Yep, definitely John Waters,'" Bloch told the site. "We got off at the next exit and circled back. He was still there. We pulled up, opened the door and asked where he was coming from. 'Baltimore,' he said. And we said 'Get in, sir.'"

By this afternoon, Waters had bid Here We Go Magic adieu. As per Turner, he's looking for additional drivers to take him across the country, and the band certainly endorses giving him a lift.

"What an utter gentleman, as natural and observant of people as one might imagine. A total joy, full of stories," the band tweeted. "Thanks JW, be safe out there."
