School Knights, Boulder, Colo.'s handsome new noise-rock quartet, are tearing down gender roles in their new video for "Powerslut." The Zack Roif and Dan Anson-directed video features the rock outfit dressed in drag, ready for a night of heavy boozing and gal-paling.
"'Powerslut' is a song about dealing with who you are in relation to what you've done and how you're being perceived," guitarist Michael Stein tells Spinner.
"The song is a kind of criticism of the gender roles that people in their late teens and early 20s fall into. That's where the whole idea of dressing up as girls for the video and having this sort of cliché girl slumber party came from. Of course, we did it our way, with a little bit of romance and a lot of whiskey."
The song begins with angular guitars, draping a wicked-mean bass line that walks through the halls like the baddest bitch in school. Reminiscent of Cloud Nothings and Atlanta's Balkans, "Powerslut" is an instantly catchy indie rock hit.
