According to the Washington Post the actor sustained a fractured leg and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital. The publication also reported the New York Daily News had three photos from the accident scene, one reportedly showing a man believed to be McKean on a spine board with a bloodied face.
"Thank you dear people for your love and support," McKean's wife Annette O'Toole tweeted this morning. "@MJMcKean and I so appreciative. He is getting great care. Spirits are good. Grateful, we."
The injury will mean McKean, 64, who's currently starring in Gore Vidal's The Best Man on Broadway, will miss his very first performance in his impressive and lengthy career. His agent Harriet Sternberg told the New York Daily News that his understudy has never been used until now.
Some celebrities took to their Twitter account to express their best wishes for McKean including comedian Patton Oswalt. "My hope that @MJMcKean has a speedy recovery goes to 11. #seriously" he tweeted.
Oddly enough, a car accident was never one of the ways Spinal Tap's infamous string of drummers allegedly died while in the group. Exploding onstage, gardening and spontaneously combusting, yes. Car accident or mishap, no.

From Lenny to the Best Man, I've loved this man's work.
Hope he's gotten rich along the way. He deserves it.
At least he got his i-phone back.
