According to The Chicago Reader, Cosey "was a classic musician's musician" who played on many amazing blues and jazz albums. He began his career as a guitarist with Chess Records in the 1960s. There he recorded with Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, the Rotary Connection, Phil Cohran and the late Etta James.
Cosey is mostly known for his virtuosic fret work with Miles Davis in the early '70s, playing on the horn blower's more electric albums Agharta, Pangaea, and Get Up With It.
After Davis retired, Cosey struggled to latch onto another big project, despite being featured on Herbie Hancock's Future Shock.
Cosey's angular, and futurist solos will live on through some of jazz music's most enigmatic records. Check out the video below of the Chicago guitarist playing with Miles Davis.

June 02 2012 at 2:31 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMan, this hurts. Pete was the real thing, A MUSICIAN, not a coward repeating the same stuff over and over to satisfy the weaklings in any audience, who can't stand change, can't deal with new ideas, think music is supposed to be a nostalgia act to be a comfortable place for them to lie in. Michael Henderson, bassist for Miles during the time before, during and after Pete used to laugh at the faces of guitarists who'd look at what Cosey was doing with his axes on stage, because they looked confused and bewildered ... they didn't know that Pete was experimenting with altered tunings and changed string positions back then, like a lot of cats today think they discovered...I heard that Pete was writing a book, man I sure hope so, he had some serious knowledge!!
