Radiohead, Bonnaroo 2012: Thom Yorke and Co. Add to Their Legend

Looking to recapture some of the magic of their 2006 appearance, widely regarded as one of the best in Bonnaroo's eleven year history, Radiohead dovetailed between their classic and new material with a setlist built around the foreboding tone of 2011's King of Limbs.
With an unseasonably cool evening awaiting them, the band opened with their recent staple "Bloom." From there on out, it was a competition between Radiohead's mesmerizing light setup and the glow-stick party bursting out in random patches throughout the massive What Stage audience. Thom Yorke's soaring vocals laid over the precision musicianship taken for granted in most large acts as their inimitable sound echoed out over the awed masses.
The band's innovative stage set up meshed right in line with the Bonnaroo aesthetic as mirror-like screens reset themselves for each song according to the general tone. Tracks like "The Gloaming" and "Separator" all built to simmering crescendos while Yorke engaged in his usual wild, spasmodic movements.
The main set culminated with fresh presentations of such classics as "There, There," which ended in a blistering outro with perfectly synced, haunting vocals. Singalong of the night went to "Karma Police," while "Idioteque" ended with an incredible dance remix
Yorke played the role of the cantankerous cowboy, asking the crowd right before the first encore, in his best southern drawl,"You want some more? Ah sheeit."
Radiohead went well over their scheduled set time and ended up bleeding into early Saturday, much to the still-eager crowd's pleasure. A new song was dedicated to Jack White, while "Reckoner" went out to Saturday headliner Red Hot Chili Peppers just as a flurry of fireworks launched and ignited the sky off the side of the stage.
Just as it seemed like Radiohead had given all they could, they closed with a white-hot rendition of "Paranoid Android," leaving the stage bathed in spectrum feedback light and yet another Bonnaroo audience with their mouths agape, whispering amongst each other as they lumbered towards the late-night acts ahead.
