Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace: Relationship With My Father Is Over

Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace recently spoke to MTV about her ongoing transition from male to female. Grace has experienced an outpouring of support from friends, family and fans, but not everyone is on board with her decision.

The Against Me! singer has effectively ended her relationship with her father. She apologized for not telling him sooner than the explosive Rolling Stone article, but it wasn't enough to save the relationship.

"He tried calling, I tried calling him back but then he wouldn't call me back. I wrote him a really long e-mail, and I apologized and told him the way he was portrayed in the Rolling Stone article was a little harsh. I apologized for that, I apologized for not telling him in person before, that I felt like a total coward for that," Laura told MTV.

"I explained about gender dysphoria, I told him if he had any questions, there were books I could point him in the direction of reading. He wrote me back maybe a two or three sentence-long email that just said, 'There was something very lacking in your presentation. For now the door is open, but we'll see.' And that's it."

Laura is about a month into hormone replacement therapy and is reportedly doing quite well. Check out the video interview below to find out more about the singer's current hardships and triumphs.
