Victor Spinetti, Beatles Movie Actor, Dead at 82: Veteran Comic Appeared in Three Fab Four Films

LONDON (AP) -- Victor Spinetti, an acclaimed comic actor who appeared in several Beatles movies, has died. He was 82.

Spinetti's close friend and agent Barry Burnett said Spinetti died Tuesday morning after suffering from cancer for several years.

Spinetti won a Tony award in 1965 for his Broadway performance in "Oh, What a Lovely War." He also appeared in three Beatles movies, "A Hard Day's Night," ''Help," and "Magical Mystery Tour."

Spinetti was born to an Italian Welsh father and Welsh mother in South Wales. He moved to London to develop his acting career, but moved back to Wales after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Awwww...sad news! I was JUST thinking about him the other day and read his Wiki page to learn more. Now we've lost him. He was a delightful foil for the Beatles in their movies. From all accounts, seemed like a lovely guy. RIP.

I watched A Hard Days Night the other day. Spinetti's performance is hilarious. The over the top caricature performances by the professional actors in the movie made the Beatles seem so cool and contributed to Beatlemania.

First, he was great as the harried TV producer in a "Hard Days Night" and second, he was even better as the mad scientist, in "Help" trying to get the ring off Ringo's finger because "with it I can rule the world"
