According to In Touch Weekly (Via Huffington Post), author Marc Shapiro's "Adele: The Biography" reveals the beginning of the singer's drinking problem, brought on by her estranged father.
Shapiro says the singer "loved the drama surrounding boys who treated her badly," from the non-existent relationship with her father to a bisexual boyfriend's cheating that drove Adele to a point of near alcoholism.
"Adele would drink more than normal to salve the heartbreak," Shapiro told In Touch Weekly. He also notes that midway through Adele's first tour, "she allegedly had a drinking problem."
The book also contains an interview with the "Rolling in the Deep" chanteuse about a particularly sad moment onstage. "I got so drunk by the time I went on at 2AM I had forgotten the words to my own songs ... It was the worst thing ever."
In 2009, Adele told Spinner that she had given up drinking around the time of her Grammy win for Best New Artist, but she fell off the wagon sometime down the line. "My voice would never be in form because I'd be hungover," she said at the time. "I wouldn't wake up on time for things, miss work and be late for things, so it was just affecting my professionalism.
Last year, it was revealed that Adele's tour rider included a number of demands for specific types of wine and beer, but after her hiatus following vocal-cord surgery, she reportedly gave up drinking and was focusing on getting healthier again.
"Adele: The Biography" hits shelves July 17 via St. Martin's Press.

This is such a crock - first of all, what interview? He asked her for an interview for the book, she declined - your story implies it is with him - FAIL. Not to mention, she has always been forthright about her past drinking - I have followed this kid from the beginning - this guy makes me sick, all these unauthorized bios do - just jumping on her fame bandwagon to make a buck.
