Peter Hayes, Dead: Echo Lake Drummer Passes Away at 25

Echo Lake
"I can't believe I'm actually typing these words, we're all completely devastated and shocked," the band's guitarist Thom Hill wrote on its site, saying Hayes was a "close friend and brilliant drummer." "Even in his last few weeks he would be sitting up in his hospital bed smiling and having a laugh with me."
The band also described Hayes as an "incredibly hard worker."
"If you ever saw us play live then you'll know what a great drummer he was," the band said. "I've been in 4 different bands over the past 10 years and while the line ups changed around us, me and Pete were always playing together. It was such a privilege to play music with him."
Hill also recalled the band in its infancy performing in different clubs with a then-underage Hayes, telling promoters they were of legal age to enter clubs to play the gigs.
"I'm really glad that the four of us moved to London, met Linda [Jarvis] and formed Echo Lake," Hill added. "I know he was really excited about the album [Wild Peace] finally coming out and the possibilities that lay ahead of us. I can't believe that he won't be around anymore to see them out with us."
The band was scheduled to play a few shows in early July in support of Wild Peace, which was being released today (June 25) on Slumberland Records.
While fans and friends expressed their condolences via Twitter, the group said via Facebook they were passing the various "kind words and tributes" to Hayes' family.
No funeral arrangements have been announced. The British Heart Foundation is accepting donations in his honor.

As a friend of Pete's for 11 years almost to the day he died I am extremely angry with some of the comments left on this article. I have also worked with Pete in a band-sense for 7 years on and off (including our present venture Echo Lake).
@raycraft the reporting was as good as possible; no one has released the cause of death -- for very personal reasons.
@nnojr who gives a ****? would it make a huge difference to your life knowing how my good friend died?
@Hunnie Gunnie it was a ******* shock: no ******* drugs
@j3zim **** YOU. I seriously hope you live in London and if you do I need to meet you so my forehead can meet your nose.
If you're that desperate to know the circumstances surrounding his death email me. I don't give a ****. I'm so ******* fed up of people trolling and speculating. I'm sure you can figure out who I am on facebook so go for it.
Do you honestly care that much? I don't think I would
RIP brother, see you in the next life.

June 26 2012 at 9:03 AM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down ReplyHi Monica - I hear what your saying, it's just that "heart trouble" is a very general description for a man so young. I think people just want a more definite description/diagnosis other than guessing what kind of heart problem he had. People are just naturally curious. Either his family didn't feel it was necessary to report his exact diagnosis or the reporting in this article lacked enogh facts to make it complete. JMO.
