Rolling Stone reports that Mike Love has booked shows with his own version of the Beach Boys, which will include singer Bruce Johnston but not founding members Brian Wilson and Al Jardine. When asked about the concerts, which were booked in South America and Texas, Wilson told the magazine that it was "news to me."
The Texas show, scheduled for Oct. 6 at Nutty Jerry's in Winnie, was canceled after the promoters realized that they were getting the Love-only version of the band. "The group that was scheduled to perform at Nutty Jerry's is not the same lineup as the current 'Beach Boys 50th Anniversary' tour," the venue wrote on its website. "As a result Nutty Jerry's did not feel that we could advertise the show as the 'original' Beach Boys."
The Beach Boys are currently scheduled for more tour dates in the U.S. and Europe through the end of August, with a show booked at England's Wembley Arena in September. Wilson, whose famously fragile psyche has made it occasionally difficult for him to tour, told Rolling Stone he's overjoyed with the current trek.
"There has been talk of doing more shows with the Boys and possibly a new record, which I would love to do," he said. "This reunion is blowing my mind."

This piece may be even more biased than the actual Rolling Stone article. Read Love's quotes without the presuppositions and you might be surprised by what he actually says. And keep in mind that the reunion tour was originally scheduled to be finished in August. Do you think it possible that a handful of fall dates were booked prior to this tour even beginning?
