According to the Hamilton Spectator, Danielle Delottinville was sentenced yesterday in Ontario Superior Court for her actions in the robbery and murder of Jessie Kovacs on Dec. 19.
A first-degree murder charged was withdrawn and the singer was given credit for her pre-sentence custody dating back to Jan. 18 of this year. Thus her sentence will be 28 months.
"I just want to apologize for what I did under the influence of drugs," Delottinville said in addressing the court. "When I eventually get out of jail, I don't want to go back to drugs again."
Despite not having a prior criminal record, Delottinville was reportedly heavily addicted to drugs, including heroin. The robbery was to "take drugs and stuff," but the singer, according to Crown Attorney Tim Power "did not attend the victim's apartment on the night in question, and did not realize he would be killed."
Defence attorney Larissa Fedak says Delottinville has moved from punk rock into "rock 'n' roll" and is entertaining fellow inmates at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre.
Two men have been charged with first-degree murder and the death of the 55-year-old Kovacs. A third male was charged with counseling an accused killer to extort a murder victim.
Pantychrist addressed the news yesterday on its Facebook page. "The verdict is in: official statement coming soon," the band wrote. "And for the record....Danielle is the CURRENT and ONLY singer of Pantychrist."
