S.S. Coachella Cruises Announced: Pulp, Hot Chip & More to Play High Seas

Music cruises are all the rage these days, and following in the wake of such artists as John Mayer, Weezer and Kid Rock -- all of whom have played to fans on the high seas -- Coachella is taking its party to the Caribbean.

According to the New York Times, the popular California music festival will stage two cruises this December, offering indie obsessives the chance to board the S.S. Coachella and sail to Jamaica and the Bahamas with Pulp, Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, Yeasayer, Girl Talk, LCD Soundsystem main man James Murphy and some 15 other acts.

Tickets range from $500 to $9,000 per person, and the four-day tours leave from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Dec. 16 (the Bahamas) and 19 (Jamaica).

Paul Tollet, president of Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella, told the Times his company had been looking to get into the cruise business for sometime. The only thing missing was the right boat, and now that they've secured a 1,000-foot, 122,000-ton ship, the time was right to ship out.

"It even has a half-acre of grass," Tollet said of the boat. "It wouldn't be Coachella without grass."
