Sharon Jones Receives Thank You Letter From First Lady Michelle Obama

Although she's probably received her share of thank you letters from fans, singer Sharon Jones was amazed yesterday by what came in the mail: a thank you letter from First Lady Michelle Obama.

"Michelle Obama wrote me a letter," Jones tweeted yesterday afternoon. "I can't believe it!"

The tweet was accompanied by a photograph of the letter which was on White House stationary, written on July 6 and addressed to "Ms. Sharon Jones."

"Dear Sharon," Obama said. "Thank you so much for the record. It was such a nice gesture and I hope you know how much I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

"The support of people all over the country continues to amaze me, and I am filled with a great sense of hope for our shared future. Again, thank you for your kindness. I wish you all the best. Sincerely, Michelle Obama."

Thank You Letter From Michele Obama to Sharon Jones

The letter comes after Jones rubbed shoulders somewhat with Tom Cruise last month, tweeting she performed "Happy Birthday" to the actor.

Jones released her last studio album Soul Time in 2011 and is still touring in support of it. The singer performs this evening (July 17) in Turkey at the International Istanbul Jazz Festival.
