Organized by Perry Farrell and headlined by his band Jane's Addiction, the original lineup would also feature Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, Henry Rollins Band, Living Color, Violent Femmes, Fishbone, Rage Against the Machine and the Butthole Surfers at various dates across North America.
It was a very exciting and very different time back then and "alternative" music was still this crazy, new underground phenomenon that wasn't sold out yet (that would be officially Sept. 29, 1992 -- the release date for Stone Temple Pilots' Core). The only size t-shirts bands would sell at the merch tents were extra-large and if your Doc Martens were anything less than eight-holes you were considered a total square.
It was also pre-internet, pre-Warped Tour, and pre-Nirvana Nevermind and Pearl Jam Ten. So basically it was like being musical cavemen/pioneers.
And it was awesome.
With that in mind, we crowd surfed along on a wave of nostalgia and found some photos from the first Lollapalooza tour along with some related period band shots. To see said shots just click and launch the gallery below.

Phony Tea , just like JAY z , Kanye , Dre , 50 pennies and the rest. They all hated the wealthy lifestyle when they started out cause they were street thugs!! What a joke , all fakes that laughed all the way to the bank and now live behind big walls like the people they professed to hate . lolol

If Christians killed one Muslim for every insult made against America of Jesus Christ there would not be many Muslims left to whine would there be? I've yet to meet anyone of any other religions who was so outwardly hostile and violent to others. I really do not think Muhammad thought that is the way to live, or to die.
Peace loving Muslims are the real victims of the violence exemplified by the idiots in the Middle East.
Isn't it ironic that in response to all of the controversy over COP KILLER, whichever you wish to take it, justifying or not, that he resurfaced in a television drama portraying a member of a police force. I am sure that the format was more accepting of his presence than his abilities as an "actor," which have yet to develop. After so many years on the air, he does not seem to have improved, in my estimation. It will be interesting to see his next career move after the show ends.

September 17 2012 at 3:11 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't think he has Anything to apologize for. IF you had taken the time to listen to the album completely you would understand the context of the song. So what that many people didn't listen to it in full...so what that you feel the way you do. WHY should he apologize for YOUR feelings? Did his song cause anyone to run out and shoot a cop? I don't think so. In the SONG, before it he is portraying a cop stereotype. In it, the cops are a-holes and eating donuts (I would say this fits for about 30/40 percent)?
Cops stereotype 'bad guys' don't they? They can PROFILE us can't they? Why can't ICE-T do the same? Why can't WE THE PUBLIC do the same to the cops?
ejmaniac - you can't have it both ways. It's that simple. You want the ability to stereotype but you don't want ICE-T to be able to do it to you. This is AMERICA...a FREE society...oh I'm sorry...It's free as long as I don't talk bad about the police...or the government, or my neighbor...BS.
Part of OUR freedoms is being able to express OURSELVES and OUR FEELINGS...in a NON-VIOLENT way. ICE-T did just that. And by the way...his band...BODY COUNT...ROCKS. I bought that album (Cop Killer INCLUDED) because I KNEW it would take heat. LOL
Many gang bangers didn't bother to put it "in context" and used it as a rallying cry to shoot at police. I worked in such a district. I came on the job to represent minorities and to make sure that the underserved minority community was represented. His bravado didn't help and was counter productive. Not all cops eat donuts, and hopefully not all citizens are as shallow and mindless as you.
September 17 2012 at 12:33 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWho are you whining at now? Its the chicken or the egg conundrum. Are cops in the hood ******** because they are disrespected and shot at, or are those in the hood shooting cops for disrespecting them and shooting and beat down running rampant? Not all cope eat donuts?

September 17 2012 at 12:11 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIce T cannot be forgiven for his references to killing police officers, and he's a hypocrite for playing one. He isn't fit to even portray one in my estimation. During my 30 plus year career we faced real danger while trying to service and his rhetoric made our jobs more difficult and dangerous. Not once has he apologized. What an a$$hole!
