Chris Brown 'Fortune': Six-Word Record Review Goes Viral

Often that happens in when writers are reviewing records they don't like. When done right it rarely takes much to get one's point across.
Like Pitchfork writer Ray Suzuki's word-free youtube-assisted analysis of Jet's Shine On album. (Though to be fair, a 0.0 review score speaks for itself.) Or when Spinal Tap's Shark Sandwich album was "reviewed" with the two-worder "shit sandwich."
Now, Chad Taylor, a music writer for Des Moines, Iowa's alternative weekly Cityview has rather succinctly joined this esteemed list with his six-word review of divisive R&B singer and convicted Rihanna assaulter Chris Brown's new Fortune album.
His review?
"Chris Brown hits women. Enough said."

You only raise more empathy and fan-base for Chris with all this unnecessary bullying. For critic that says that it is only young girl that come to his defense, you are wrong, mothers also do, because we see it that this could have been our son. If you know what it takes to give birth to a child, you will never wish another evil. The self loathing and condemnation Chris would have had or still passing through because of his whimsical action cannot be compared to your mindless rant. Lets be more compassionate as humans, life is hard enough. I have said my piece.

Of all the Chris’s criticism, this is the most childish.
It seems to me that when the so called stars like Adam Levine, Miranda Lambert or wannabe music critics like Chad Taylor are having a rough time with their career or life, who do they dump on? the easy target Chris! to make themselves feel better and say that their life is not so bad after all, SHAME! With childish articles like Chad’s, you wonder why people go on Chris' defense. Hello! Chris is a human being with feelings like the rest of us. For the so called righteous critics who are perfect in their own eye and never do nothing wrong! Life is undulating; it might be good for you today, if it really is? no one knows tomorrow. Think about it when you want to destroy another human with your callous, childish, unforgiving, self righteous rants. That this young guy has not taken to drugs, drinking or even done something worse is commendable with all the negativity in the media about him. Half of his critics will not have survived a day in his shoe, especially at that tender young age of 19yrs when it started; I guess that is the price a celebrity pays; what a price! Let’s look on the positive; this young guy who could have been our son, brother nephew or friend is working hard at his career, trying to put the ugly past behind him but no! the naysayers will never give up. If he reacts due to the overwhelming criticism, the naysayers will say you see we told you! he will never change. I guess he called it on himself. Although, I pose this question to the righteous Adam Levine (whom I use to like), Miranda Lambert, Chad Taylor and rest of critics, have we all not done things that we are ashamed of, regret everyday and wish we could turn back the hands of time to correct? Even Rihanna realizes, that is why she decided to forgive and even reached out to Chris FIRST! to show the unforgiving minds that life is too precious to be stuck in a time capsule. I guess the load that Rihanna refuses to carry is now being hauled around by the likes of Adam Levine or Miranda Lambert, Chad Taylor etc. Good Job Guys! since you do not have enough problem of your own or do I detect little bit of envy and jealousy there, that Chris is forging ahead and working hard at his life/career despite his human shortcoming, while you seat in your little corners to watch and pass judgment or I guess Chris's story bring notoriety to dead careers. Don’t get me wrong, positive criticism is good for the soul but when it became an envious childish rant aimed at destroying another human, because one is having a bad day, we will have to draw the line. You only raise more empathy and fan-base for Chris with all this unnecessary bullying. For critic that says that it is only young girl that come to his defense, you are wrong, mothers also do because we see it that this could have been our son. chris isn't just an easy target because he's a bit of a ****, he is also an easy target because his music is so terrible. i'm not even reffering to the moral content of his music when i say 'terrible' i simply mean the compositions and production is just awefull. i think its the combonation of all these things that piss so many people off! as a musician myself i am actually more offended by his pathetic generic compositions than his actions.

Everyone forgot about what other celebs had done in the past so why does everyone bring it back up to make him look bad? He's obviously a changed man and has made real success. Rihanna forgives him. AND HOW IS THIS A REVIEW?? it's more critisizing in my point of view.

The statement Isn't Much of a review rather Its Another ignorant slander.
That dude Chad joins the list of wankers that Should be deleted....
Enough said
It isn't that difficult to separate ones personal from professional life, is it? I can't respect Sean Connery for his troubled domestic past, but that doesn't mean he isn't a superlative actor. Same thing with Ike Turner. Horrible, biter and abusive troll...but he's a rock and roll pioneer. I can still groove to his music. Does that make me awful? No more than liking Wesley Snipes makes me an apologist for tax evaders, or wearing a Pogues t-shirt makes me a supporter of alcoholism. I still think Mad Max is a great film, but does that make me an anti-semite? Surely not.
CB haters remind me of the people who burned LeBron uniforms after he left Cleveland. This is a hatred of someone successful and black, someone who has made it easy to hate him. The reactions of a vocal majority suggest a suppressed racism that has been allowed and accepted by the mainstream.
These people who create the art and the culture that defines our time....a lot of them are ********. ******** who from time to time will break the law, do bad things, be hurtful and hateful. They are...what's the word?....HUMAN! Personal lives should not detract from the appreciation of an artists' output. Emphasis on 'should not'. CB is about as unsympathetic a human as I have ever come across. And, to be frank, his music is simply dire. But me thinks people are hating and judging him with too broad a stroke. People can grow up, change, and redeem themselves if given the chance. That is at least the illusion that our society likes to perpetuate. But there is little evidence to show that CB is going to be given the opportunity.
That said, the review is pretty awesome.
This is less about race and a lot about internet traffic, paper/mag circulations & TV/radio ratings - CB is doing his punishment for his crime whilst Polanski raped a 13yr old girl brutally, fled this country to escape justice yet his movies are still shown here often with the backing of American finance and actors(latest being Jodie Foster & Kate winslett(Brit)).
Msg is the rape of a 13yr old wouldn't get the reaction you get for CB hating...it's about ratings/traffic numbers..be damned if you're raped by Polanski.
If Chris Brown were not a young black male, all of this continued mockery, critiquing and highlighting of his indiscretion would not still be taking place. Really should be ashamed of yourselves.
July 19 2012 at 11:54 AM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyI'm embarrassed by your comment as a woman. you should be ashamed of YOURSELF. Race has nothing to do with it. pathetic! If he wasn't a high profile celebrity he'd be in jail and his career would be over.
July 19 2012 at 12:14 PM Report abuse Permalink -3 rate up rate down ReplyI don't need you to be embarrassed for me as anything. Never did I state that what he did wasn't wrong, a lot of you who respond out of just strictly emotion only focus on that. I take it you're literate so go back and re-read my comment. I said the "continued mockery, critiquing and highlighting of his indiscretion." There are several high profile white celebrities who are abusers....habitual abusers....who have done far worse and were not 18, 19 y/o when it happened, there was never this level of scrutiny for those people. If you want to be outraged about how the courts dealt with CB, then people should apply that same vehement outrage across the board. What's the difference? Race. Take off your rose-colored glasses sweetheart.
July 19 2012 at 1:07 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate downLOL instead of getting so wiled up like he beat you, you should have taken a minute to actually read the comment because there's def some truth to it. Race plays a role in everything and if Breezy was let's say Bieber or Timberlake then the entire way the media handled it would have been different and it def wouldn't still be impacting their career 3+ years later. That's what the comment was getting at.
July 19 2012 at 1:24 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate downI find it peculiar that Mel Gibson violently shakes his baby mama while she'd a baby in her arms amongst other things yet she gets abused on most internet sites with almost total discard for Mel yet again crimes. Those sorta sites with tmz the leader often have commentators comparing CB to animals(with racial overtones)..Selective condemnation renders a lot of the vile against Chris as hypocritical . Society has a rise in domestic violence, can't blame CB for that..are all those who continually go at him as clean as they want to project??
July 19 2012 at 4:06 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down ReplyCHRIS IS STILL SLAYING CHARTS WHILE YOU LOSERS ARE HOLDING ONTO THE PAST!! MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIVES STUPID CRITICS!! CB IS IGNORING ALL OF YOU NOBODIES!!
