The Academy... Is Drummer Assaulted With Flower Pot, Jaw Broken, Other Serious Injuries

Drummer Andy Mrotek, best known for his years in The Academy Is..., has probably avoided his share of projectiles during concerts. But a flower pot proved to be undoing after being "jumped" and assaulted earlier this week in Milwaukee.

Mrotek suffered some pretty brutal facial injuries after being hit with a flower pot around Milwaukee's Humbolt Park earlier this week. According to Alter The Press! Mrotek ended up with his jaw broken in five places, fractured orbital bones around both eyes and 25 stitches. Photos of Mrotek show a nasty gash on the right side of his face along with cuts and bruises on the left side of his face and forehead.

Mrotek tweeted pictures of the injuries.

"Oh, and this is my good side," he tweeted. "Getting a vase smashed in your face, and kicked in in your eyes - getting jumped rules!" A string of subsequent tweets and replies to fans filled in more details.

"Walking down Oklahoma (Avenue), humbolt park," he tweeted. "And no, I didn't see anyone's face. Just a flower pot and a bunch of feet." Last night the drummer posted a close up of his eye and upper cheek, adding that today (July 27) "I'll finally allowed to finally shower! (doctors order) I'll let yall know how that goes. Dried blood is itchitchitchyyy."

Mrotek also said well wishes and kind thoughts from fans were "more than enough," but he'd also accept donations from fans if they wished to help him offset the medical costs from the assault via PayPal at Butcherprints AT gmail.com.

The Academy Is... disbanded last year with Mrotek leaving the group a few months before its demise. The group released its last studio album Fast Times at Barrington High back in 2008.
