According to Stereogum, Gabe Vodicka, the editor of Athens, Ga.-based for Flagpole, broke the news on twitter. OTC have since confirmed the passing of their frontman on the band's website, which currently displays an image of Doss performing live with a short statement: "We are devastated by the loss of our brother Bill Doss. We are at a loss for words."
There is currently no other information on the singer's cause of death. The band had recently released a three-part epic tune, "The Game You Play Is in Your Head, Parts 1, 2 and 3," and were hoping to tour behind it and other new material.
Olivia Tremor Control played the Georgia Theater just a few days again, so the death of Doss comes as a total shock to fans and the band alike. "Thanks to everyone who came out to our show in Athens. We'll be taking a break from touring this fall while we record our next album. Stay tuned [for] updates from the studio!" the band wrote July 28 on their Facebook page.
Doss was one of four original members of the widely influential Elephant 6 collective, a group that included Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum, Apples in Stereo's Robert Schneider and fellow OTC member Will Cullen Hart. He will be sorely missed by the indie music community.

I'd agree with the "Who?" comments if the article was about the death of the singer of a band that was formed yesterday, but this band has been around for 20 years. If a band has been around for 20 years and you haven't heard of them, maybe you need to broaden your horizons. I'm not a big indie/experimental guy, but I definitely have heard of OTC and Elephant 6. They were very influential in indie circles and Bill Doss will definitely be missed.

If you don't care, move along.
Respect and compassion,.along with every other shred of decency, are morals of the past.
Another article about a musician nobody ever heard of

It's not news to someone who isn't into alternative rock and roll. To folks who are, to those who know what an excellent band OTC was, this is rather a big shock. So, yes, it is news to some people.
This is not news. and if it is, to whom?
