The sad news comes from the band's longtime label, Fat Wreck Chords. Label owner and NOFX frontman Fat Mike said, "One of my dearest friends and favorite song writers has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed."
No Use for a Name formed in 1987 with Sly joining two years later. The group, which formerly included Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett, has released nine LPs, with the latest being 2008's The Feel Good Record of the Year. Sly also recorded several solo albums, featuring acoustic songs as opposed to NUFAN's melodic punk.
In an interview with Spinner just six weeks ago, Sly spoke of having a herniated disc and his old hard-partying ways, as well as his plans to record a new album. To read the whole thing, click here.

Quit asking who this guy was and just enjoy some real music. Not my favorite band, but definitely a part of my adolescence. And for those of you making insensitive comments about Tony's possible cause of death, I pray you never have to have two spine surgeries before the age of 30 as I have... he stated in an interview in June that he was in major pain from a back problem and having to play through the pain. Living with pain every day is not easy. I'm praying for his family and friends in this difficult time.
