Beastie Boys Sue Monster Energy Drink After MCA's Anti-Advertising Will Revealed

The Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch, aka MCA, ensured that his life's work would not be used to sell products by stipulating in his will that his music, image and art never be used in advertising.

The details of Yauch's will were filed with a Manhattan Surrogate Court on Tuesday, effectively making them public knowledge and revealing that the late rapper's wife, Dechen Yauch, will receive the trust of his $6.4 million fortune. Dechen will also reserve the right to manage and sell her late husband's artistic property.The Brooklyn native died from salivary-gland cancer on May 4 at the age of 47.

As his bandmates, Ad-Rock and Mike D, share credit on the trio's songs, it is uncertain how Yauch's wishes will affect the ability of the other boys to use their work. The surviving Beastie Boys would not comment on the matter.

But based on their recent lawsuit with Monster energy drink for copyright infringement, it seems they share similar feelings to MCA: They filed a suit against the energy drink company on Wednesday for unlawful use of up to 26 of their songs and use of their likenesses.
