Elvis' Underwear Auction: The King's Stained Undies Hit the Block

Celebrity obsession has officially reached another level with the announcement that Elvis Presley's dirty underwear will be auctioned off next month. As the BBC reports, the tighty whiteys were worn by Presley in 1977 to take away panty lines from his famous white jumpsuit.

Unwashed and rather soiled, estimates for what the briefs will go for have been around £10,000 or about $16,000 U.S. The undies will be auctioned at an Elvis Presley pop memorabilia sale Stockport, Greater Manchester.

The undies have been framed for display and come from the estate of Vernon Presley, Elvis' father. Also for sale are some home videos and a well-annotated Bible that belonged to the "Hound Dog" singer.

For those of us stuck at home,the auction will be web-broadcasted by Omega Auctions' website on Sept. 8. Presley died 25 years ago this month on Aug. 16, 1977.

I don't care how famous somebody might be; I would never want to have somebody else's dirty underwear,let alone be stupid enough to pay "top dollar" for them!
That must truly be a prime example of an extreme mental disorder!

Someone should just torch them at the auction house...Make these undies disappear!! Only perverts want other people's underwear!!! Sickos bidding on Elvis' supposed undies, so they can what? Get them home & sniff them? Wear them? Sick people need medicated!!!

This is an obvious scam for a number of reasons. First, Elvis' father would have never given Elvis' soiled underwear to anyone. For an entertainer, image is everything and why would someone who lives off of that entertainer's image do something to tarnish that image. Second, Elvis was one of the elite rich and famous. He had dozens of people jumping at his every whim. Do you really think that he would have worn underwear like that? Come on, this guy was a millionaire in the 1970s. That was back in the day when gas was 35 cents a gallon. He could afford clean underwear. The reasons go on and on, but the bottom line is that the Presley estate would NEVER do something to tarnish that image. Elvis had problems in the last few years of his life but he still personified the American dream. He came from nothing to super stardom and beyond all in about 20 years. What a horrible thing to do, and to post on the internet, after all that this man has meant to millions of fans even today. I makes me sick.
