Now, for the label's 50th anniversary, some of A&M's most notable musicians have sat down to talk about their favorite memories.
Sting remembers A&M fondly, as he and the Police signed with them back in the late '70s. He appreciated the "grown-up" relationship the band had with the label, which led to several years of successful endeavors.
Yusuf, formerly known as Cat Stevens, discusses his most "prolific" moment while swimming at Jerry Moss' home in Malibu. In fact, it was on that day that the singer began heading for a conversion.
Lastly, Peter Frampton recalls his early days with Humble Pie, and their gold-record-earning live album. A&M helped the singer do the same as a solo artist.
The 60-track, 3 CD set A&M: The Anniversary Collection, featuring the label's best music from the past 50 years, has been handpicked by Alpert and Moss and is out now via Universal.
