Marching-Band Fails and Triumphs: The Bloopers and the Best Videos

With football season kicking off, we rounded up some of the funniest marching-band blooper videos below. And because we're not totally heartless, we also found a few that are so awesome that we have to tip our cap and say, "We're so happy our parents never made us do that, because we would have been awful." Enjoy!
THE WORST
One of the most famous plays in football history, the ending of the 1982 Stanford-Cal game featured one of the biggest blunders in marching-band history. Trombonist Gary Tyrrell will forever be known as the guy who got leveled as Cal's Kevin Moen scored the winning TD.
One trombone player falling over is good. Eight is great.
We have no doubt that those drums are heavy, but damn, kid. Make an effort to get up.
Who's at fault here: The cameraman or the sousaphone dude? For another angle, click here.
Timing is everything. This Longhorn doesn't have it, and has the gall not to admit it for about 20 yards.
You'd think sousaphonists would practice getting up off the ground, considering how much those things weigh.
Sometimes the band isn't at fault -- it's the alcohol. Fast forward to 0:38 to see this Ravens fan bite it.
THE BEST
Now this guy has some talent. To see that jerk kid coming from the corner of his eye and trip him at the perfect moment is just something you can't teach. It's instinct.
Jackson State just owns this marching-band game.
Now that's teamwork, Hawaii. Dozens of members unite like Voltron form a giant kicker, who nails a field goal.
Radiohead doing "15 Step" at the Grammys would be cool on its own, but with the USC Trojan band backing them, it's a masterpiece.

I get paid over $87 per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I'd be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless. Heres what I've been doing, Blue31.com

It was most important to have an even number of instruments to look good. I even carried a snare drum one time and it took a lot of work to learn the cadences.

I was competent enough with most brass and a couple woodwinds so I filled in wherever was needed to make the lines even. It was most important to have an even number of instruments to look good. I even carried a snare drum one time and it took a lot of work to learn the cadences.
the Drum Majorette was one of most popular girls in the school.
we never had a screw up because we practiced both before and after school until we got it drummed into our heads and nothing fantastically weird happened during any halftime show.
we also did some pretty good parades - all within the state - nothing on television though and no big national event. you have to invited to that.
I am a fan of Patrick Hughes and Louisville's Marching Band.

We had our fails, and we had our triumphs just as these videos show...one just never knew when someone would fall, or a clarinet would break in half during a competition. What my children learned through being band members was how co-operation, how to lean on each other and diligent teamwork...when they both became section leaders, they learned how to lead. Marching band is just as much as an athletic sport as football...even more so...unfortunately, many times it does not generate the same respect. My youngest had a t-shirt that said "What is the football team doing on our marching field" and that was the truth. I miss being a band mom.

Both section leaders. I loved it, and I miss seeing them. My oldest got a full scholarship to a wonderful university. My youngest is still in HS, but other academics didn't allow for band this year. The band turns out every graduation to be the scholars, and future busimness owners. The athletes? Their employees. I too, think it is unfortunate that the marching band is so downplayed (my daughter's school district won't pay for them to attend away games, but will pay for a "Band Booster" bus for the athlete's parents). The band kids are a great group of young people. They are talented. funny, smart and decent kids. I miss being a band Dad.

It is too bad there isn't more time for the baands to march on television at the football games. Our daughters were in the marching bands at Hartsville High School in Hartsville, South Carolina. We spent many times going to band contests. Many good memories.

True love is eternal. If you think that you were once in love, but fell out of it, then it wasn't love you were in. There are no 'exit' signs in love, there is only an 'on' ramp. -(google)age,~less,~cupid/c,o,m. - Lots of my friends found their lovers through the se'rvice. You may have a try... ;)
