In Their Words: "I wrote 'John From New York' when I was living with my older sister in Manhattan back in 2008. John was my grandfather, who died before I was born. The song is dedicated to him. I moved up to New York to take a break from college, and because I felt it was the place to be if I wanted to do what I loved, which at the time was making videos and being in a comedy troupe. I realized however that I was just running away, and that I could achieve what I wanted/needed back home in South Carolina, with my friends and family. That is what the lyrics are about.
