Fiona Apple Arrested in Texas

Fiona Apple MugshotAP

Fiona Apple was arrested yesterday in Texas for possession of hashish and marijuana, TMZ reports.

The "Criminal" singer is currently being held in Hudspeth County Jail after police found the drugs on her tour bus. The 35-year-old was nabbed in Sierra Blanca, the same place where Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg and Armie Hammer were arrested for possession, making one wonder why anyone would hold on to their stash in that area.

According to the Associated Press, hash possession is a felony in Texas, while the amount of pot she had counts for a misdemeanor. Fiona posted bail for $10,000 this afternoon and will be rescheduling tonight's (Sept. 20) show in Austin. She's currently touring behind her excellent album The Idler Wheel Is Wiser...

Obviously the Sierra Blanca police department intentionally targets tour busses. It's like shooting fish in a barrel- apparently policing skills aren't required, nor is an understanding of the 4th amendment. Don't they have anything better to do, like organizing Klan rallies, or dressing up as Nazis and goose-stepping through town?

This is obviously a case of talking before you think. #1 The Sierra Blanca checkpoint is staffed by Border Patrol Agents ( or is under the control of Homeland Security if you will). #2 Hudspeth County Deputies are normally the ones that take the prisoners into custody. #3 Every vehicle that travels through the checkpoint is stopped. That includes cars, trucks and busses.

For the uninformed, that checkpoint has been there as long as I can remember (and I am now 60). With all the "high profile" arrests in the last few years, only and idiot would attempt to take drugs through the checkpoint. Google maps, Yahoo maps, etc can be "your friend" if people would bother to look up things.
