Fucked Up Looking for 'Real-Life' Intern to 'Do Lots of Fun Unpaid Stuff'

Internships are often about doing trivial errands: making coffee runs, filing crap, and just trying to bide one's time before finally doing something that might matter.

But interning with a rock band might be an interesting proposition, especially if it's with prog-hardcore SPIN cover stars and ex-Polaris Prize champs Fucked Up. Who knows? You could be tasked with finding the proper tin cans lead singer Damian Abraham slams into his forehead. Or toweling off his sweaty body after a show. Or waking him up for his 3 a.m. hosting appearances on MuchMusic's The Wedge. Or even valiantly trying to catch him as he stage dives into the audience.

"Hey so we're looking for an in-person real-life intern to do various fun essential Fucked Up Universe tasks," the band wrote in a blog post yesterday. "You will get to hang out with us in the FU-Annex area in Toronto and get to be part of the world and do lots of fun unpaid stuff."

The band added that candidates have to live in Toronto and must be between the ages of 18 to 28.

"We are really serious about this and it's not a joke," the band wrote before including the email address (IANEND AT hotmail.com). The post included a photo of a woman at an office desk holding a piece of paper which read "Unpaid Internships Exclude Those Who Can't Afford To Work For Free." There's no word on the length of the internship, or if the intern would possibly get to travel with the band when they tour.

The internship could also lead to a successful career in rock.

Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, for example, once worked as an intern for The Walkmen before forming his own group. The Hidden Cameras leader Joel Gibb also interned for the defunct Chart Magazine in the past.

Fucked Up -- who were a short list nominee at the recent Polaris Music Prize, which was won by Feist for her album Metals -- also announced a European tour set for mid-November. The nine-day, nine-show trek begins in Manchester on Nov. 14 before concluding in Istanbul on Nov. 22. The group is touring behind their latest studio effort, David Comes to Life.
