According to TMZ, Commerford was asked after leaving a Malibu, California cafe if the group was working on new material.
"Maybe... maybe," Commerford said.
The discussion then turns to Gucci Mane's ice cream cone face tattooed rapper and a newly gap-toothed Commerford saying his "new thing is removing teeth." As in, his own teeth.
If Rage Against the Machine are working on a new album, it would be their fifth and first since 2000's Renegades. The group's singer Zack de la Rocha released a statement in October 2000 announcing he was leaving the band. In 2007 they reunited for Coachella and sporadically performed over the last few years. The band's biggest claim to fame of late was a Facebook campaign two people started which secured the top spot on Britain's singles charts during the Christmas holidays for "Killing in the Name." The campaign prevented contestants from the television show The X Factor from ending up number one.
Rage Against the Machine made no mention of Commerford's reply to TMZ on its official site. The band's last update was Aug. 17 asking fans to submit photos, stories or any other items related to the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.
In related news, the band's drummer Brad Wilk recently sold his Malibu home for over $2 million. According to the Los Angeles Times Wilk and his wife Selene Vigil sold the 2,750 square-foot ocean-view pad for $2.543 million.
And yesterday guitarist Tom Morello tweeted about a chance celebrity meeting. "Had biggest fan freakout in memory when I met 'Checkov' from the original Star Trek last nite," Morello wrote. "Lost. My. Mind."
