Boys Noize 'Out of the Black': Electronic Producer Talks New Album, Snoop Dogg Collaboration
Denis Ignatov
The album, which came out digitally on Tuesday (Oct 8), features fellow German Siriusmo, Los Angeles underground rapper GIZZLE, and a surprising collaboration with Snoop Dogg.
In celebration of our listening party, Spinner spoke with Boys Noize about his latest effort, his approach to recording, and the guest stars, so read on while you listen to Out of the Black.
"This album was the first time I took some time off [from] touring this spring and summer, so that gave me good time to lock myself in my studio, and I loved it," he tells us. "The way I produce music has not changed at all, though. I still start from zero every time. I dont have any template or presets I use. Usually, I start playing around with one machine, like a drum machine or a synth, or a sampler thing, looking for a sound that inspires me to build another one on top [of]."
In addition to DJing and producing, Boys Noize runs his own label, Boysnoize Records, which has released music by Strip Steve, Jan Driver, Mixhell, The Faint, Spank Rock and many more. Though he does not generally work with other artists on his own releases, this time around, he enlisted some big names, to "make something really fucking cool."
"Normally I dont work with any guests. I was never a fan of albums that contained features on every track, I like it when it feels more pure," he explains. "On this album it just happened that I got a song with Snoop Dogg. I am so happy 'cause he's one of the guys I grew up [on], and I always thought that if I get a chance to work with him, I can quit music. Anyways, we recorded two songs and one of them ended up on my album. The goal for me was to just make something really fucking cool with me."
