Craig Nicholls Arrested: Vines Frontman Booked for Allegedly Assaulting His Mother

Police were called on Saturday (Oct. 13) after the Aussie singer, 35, reportedly punched his mom twice in the head at the family's Terry Street home. Nicholls, who has Asperger's syndrome, attempted to resist arrest in an alleged violent rampage that left a policeman injured.
"He tried to evade police and [a] violent struggle ensued," Hurstville police Inspector Robert Duncan told The Sydney Morning Herald. "A police officer suffered grazes, cuts and bruises to both elbows and knees and was treated at St. George Hospital," he said.
Nicholls has been charged with five separate offenses; two counts of domestic assault, stalking or intimidation, resisting arrest and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He is expected to appear in local court tomorrow, and his parents have already applied for an apprehended violence order, a restraining order known as an AVO.
His Asperger's having gone undiagnosed during the first half of his career, Nicholls gained a reputation for being an erratic performer who smashed his bandmates' instruments and yelled at concertgoers. He faced assault and malicious-damage charges in Sydney back in 2004, which were later dropped on the condition that he seek treatment for the neurological disorder.

With anyone who knows about aspergers and the autism spectrum those outbursts or meltdowns come from not only his aspergers but its also the result of him being diagnosed when he was and not as a child. When aspergers is diagnosed when their a child they get the therapy that they need and between the parents, doctors, therapists, and schools they can help channel those meltdowns/outbursts so they will not get to that extent and hopefully in a non violent way as well. If he gets put in jail he will just be worse when he gets out and i mean worse than the average person that spends time in jail. He needs to be hospitalized so he can get the therapy he needs and then its up to the therapist and doctors where he should go after that like maybe in a group home or something to that affect so he can still get the therapy he needs, get some of his independence back, and all the while still be monitored. The biggest trigger for outbursts/meltdowns is over stimulation.

Craig Nicholls is the leader of The Vines, one of the biggest bands of the early 2000s. He may be troubled but he's a good songwriter. And since he was on the cover of Rolling Stone, that means he's been a little successful...
