The Orwells Singer Arrested Along With Two Family Members in Illinois

Mario Cuomo, the 19-year-old singer of Chicago area buzz band The Orwells, was arrested earlier this month in Illinois along with two other family members.

According to yesterday's Elmhurst Press, police entered the Cuomo home in Elmhurst with a search warrant on Oct. 5 and seized marijuana, several pieces of drug paraphernalia, 23 Adderall pills (which contain amphetamine) as well as four firearms.

The singer was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and possessing drug paraphernalia while Francis Cuomo, 17, was charged with unlawful use of a firearm along with separate unlawful possession charges of marijuana and a controlled substance. Meanwhile, Dominick Cuomo was charged with possessing a firearm without having the owner's identification card. Both Mario and Dominick Cuomo were released on bond while Francis Cuomo was taken to DuPage County Jail.

The Orwells -- who are all still in their teens and have had some shows nixed last minute due to being underage -- have received a fair amount of buzz recently with appearances in Spin as well as Pitchfork. The group, who released their debut album Remember When in August, are playing this year's CMJ in New York City and played the Mercury Lounge last night.

The group made no comment on the arrests aside from retweeting news from various outlets on Cuomo's arrest on their Twitter account.
