Garbage Twitter Hijacked: Hacker Poses as Drunk Shirley Manson

Scottish rockers Garbage awoke to a startling reality on Wednesday (Oct. 17), when they realized their Twitter account had been hacked by an internet troll.

According to The Independent, someone hijacked the band's account and began tweeting hundreds of times, posing as an inebriated Shirley Manson.

"Getting a lot of questions about what I'm drinking. Is it that obvious I'm drunk???" the hacker wrote to Garbage's 55,000 followers. "Vanilla Malt and a few coolers :) ... There will be whipped cream and Shirley for all."

Even though Manson regained control of the account later in the day, it didn't stop the hacker from doing some damage.

Mashable reports that the hacker sent out several spam-laced tweets, linking to various adf.ly ads. "All you people saying I'm dumb. I've made over 19 dollars by spamming ad.fly links. I hack twitters and spam them great money," the hacker gloated, no longer acting as a drunk Manson.

This isn't the first time Garbage has been targeted by internet trolls. As Spinner previously reported, Manson received hundreds of hateful tweets from an anonymous account in July. At one point, the rhetoric got so bad that the Los Angeles police got involved.

Garbage have since apologized to their fans for the scary tweets.
