P.O.S. Cancels Tour, Needs Kidney Transplant

P.O.S., whose excellent album We Don't Even Live Here is due out next week, has been forced to postpone his upcoming tour -- except his Oct. 26 show at Minneapolis' First Avenue -- because he needs a new kidney.

The Doomtree rapper made the surprising announcement this afternoon via a YouTube video, saying his kidneys "are garbage. They've been going bad since I was a teenager."

He explained that he had been on dialysis for a month and planned on using a cycler, a portable treatment machine, at night while he was on the road but his doctors explained to him that it would be impossible to maintain his health that way.

"I might reach out to you to help me get a new kidney and heal up, whether that be if you have a kidney that fits my body or you have 20 bucks to throw at it." He went on to mention that he did 200-plus shows after his last album, 2009's Never Better, and promises to do that when he's ready.

"It sucks to put out a record and not be able to hit the road and support it, but I gotta sit down, I gotta not play too hard," he says, noting he played a show in St. Paul, Minn., recently and had to go the emergency room after 30 minutes on stage. "That's life, right?" he says, laughing.
